Saint Barnabas School, Johannesburg, South Africa

Saint Barnabas School was brought into being by the vision and determination of its first head master Michael Corke in partnership with enlightened industry and business leaders within South Africa in the 1970’s who saw the need to educate talented young South Africans in an environment free from a state mandated curriculum.

Located on land donated by the private sector, the design is based on a series of courtyards or quads linked by open covered walkways. The faculty and student residences and lower school are on the left, the school chapel in the center, and two teaching quads on the right. The concept can expand over time in two directions while maintaining the linked courtyard concept.
