University of Balamand, Lebanon

The university was established about twenty-five years ago after the Lebanese civil war and is committed to promoting Christian – Muslim understanding. The campus has its roots in the 14th century when a monastery that overlooks the campus, as well as out over the Mediterranean sea was founded. The university plans to more than double its enrollment from 1800 to 5000 students over the next twenty years. The master plan was developed through a series of interactive work sessions and presentations to faculty, students and board members with the immediate goal of identifying sites for much needed teaching and residential space. While the master plan was being completed work started on a new library and teaching facility, a major expansion to the Faculty of Engineering and a new student residence hall along with site and landscape improvements.
